Governor chairs high-level security review meeting
Attending the inaugural session of the three-day media workshop on climate change as Chief Guest here at DK Convention Hall being organized jointly by the Indian Himalayas Climate Adaptation Programme (IHCAP), Department of Science and Technology and Centre for Media Studies (CMS), Felix also stressed for conservation of environment.
“Legislation alone is not sufficient to promote sustainable development and climate adaptation. We will have to undertake information, education and communication activity on a large-scale to sensitize people about climate change and encourage them to take necessary steps at their level,” felix said.
Speaking on the occasion, PCCF and principal secretary, Department of Environment and Forests, Omkar Singh, disclosed the State Action Plan on Climate Change, which was formulated in 2013, is being reviewed and updated.
“Inadequate or ill-informed coverage of climate change does not help in sensitizing people, policy makers and politicians. Clear and authentic media coverage on climate change mitigation and adaptation can help motivate people and communities to act,” he added.
Among others, Communication officer, IHCAP Shimpy Khurana, Director General, CMS P N Vasanti, Managing Editor, India Science Wire Dinesh C Sharma, Nodal Officer, Climate Change Cell D Dohu Robin, Prof. S K Patnaik, Rajiv Gandhi University, A K Shukla, Additional PCCF also spoke and presented power point presentation on various climate issues.
