Wakro, Jun 26: In a dastardly incident that occurred here in the morning of June 25 last, three persons identified as Anuj Deka (26) , Nitin Karmakar (18) and Vishal Sonar (18), all daily wage labourers were arrested for attempting to rape and murder a local woman at her rented house.
After receiving complaint from relatives, police immediately swung into action and arrested the culprits after a massive search operation. The victim was referred to Dibrugarh in Assam for treatment. The trio have been put into 14 days of judicial remand, informed OC Wakro PS Thomas Pertin and were booked under sections 17/19, 341/354/354(B) /376/511/307/34 of IPC respectively.
It has come to light that the culprits are habitual drug addicts and Vishal, one of the perpetrators has been involved in several theft cases in the area too. A detail inquiry has been initiated and cross interrogation is also underway to find out the actual facts, OC added.
