TEZU, Nov 15: Sports and Youths Affair Minister Dr Mohesh Chai formally declared open the three-day 23rd State Level Karate – Do Championship here at Amik Ringya Cultural Hall.
Encouraging the Karatekas as chief guest on the inauguration ceremony, Dr Chai extended gratitude to all the nine gold medallists at First North East Olympic Competition held at Imphal recently. “Out of ten gold our state received 9 gold which were in karate only which proves our youngsters have huge talent in Karate. I am optimistic that the state Karatekas would bring laurels for India during the upcoming 2020 Olympics to be held at Tokyo where Karate has been included in Olympic games for the first time in its  history,” he hoped.   
In extending kudos to the upcoming sports stars in Arunachal, Binay Bidre, General Secretary, AVBP, Bengaluru as  guest of honour said Arunachal is in the top five in Karate in national level and first in North East level which is a matter of pride. 
B Marik, general secretary, Arunachal Karate Association (AKA) and Dr SD Sharma AKA founder and technical director also spoke on the humble beginning of Karate in the state. 
Overall, 593 players, 20 judges, 35 referees, 24 managers and coaches from 23 districts are enthusiastically participating in the championship.  Besides, Karma Leki DC, Dr DW Thungon, SP Lohit, district officials and public also witnessed the inaugural function.
