ITANAGAR, May 4: The Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) is all set to organize its first ever sub-junior state ranking badminton league scheduled to be held here on May 10-12.
The tournament will see participation of all the 22 badminton clubs in the state featuring the upcoming energetic young shuttlers who will compete for the prestigious title. Announcing this, ASBA Secretary Bamang Tago informed that the tournament will be held for both boys and girls in singles and doubles category. He said that the participants are picked out from district level tourneys conducted across the state and top-rated winners will be given chance to participate in the upcoming Dorjee Khandu Memorial Badminton Tournament.
Disclosing that more than 50 participants are currently undergoing rigorous coaching at training camp being set up at Raj Bhawan badminton court under qualified coaches, Tago further said that the tournament has been included in the annual badminton calendar and will be conducted thrice a year.
When asked about the prospects of the game's growth in the state, Tago admitted that although there are lots of challenges in increasing badminton’s popularity, it has done really well in the last few years.“The positive thing I have noticed while organizing the league is that the badminton culture is revolutionizing in the state and kids are also taking keen interest in choosing it as a career,” ASBA Secretary said.
Meanwhile, two young shuttlers from the state have been selected for training in Andhra Pradesh and another promising shutter is receiving training in Indonesia being sponsored by Indian Badminton Association(IBA).
And two budding players who had undergone an intensive training session are back in the state to participate in this ranking tourney.
