ITANAGAR, May 10: The first Sub-Junior State Ranking Badminton Tournament-2019 kicked off today here at the MLA Cottage Badminton Stadium amid a huge gathering.
A total of 200 young badminton players from various districts, clubs and associations are participating in the tourney organized by the Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) which will also be a scouting exercise to unearth the state’s hidden talents. The three-day event will have competitions in doubles and singles categories for both boys and girls in the age groups of under-9, under-11 and under-13.
Officially declaring the tourney open, Secretary-General of Arunachal Olympic Association, Abraham K. Techi called upon all players to play the game with sportive skill without giving priority to win or defeat. Advising the young shuttlers to actively participate in sporting activities along with studies, he reminded that focus and determination are the prerequisites of success.
ASBA Secretary, Bamang Tago informed that this year the association has included competitions for the under-9 age group which is also the first of its kind in the country. “Our aim is to groom talented shuttlers from a very young age,” added Tago divulging more about the tournament.
