PASIGHAT, Feb 23: The 12-hour Siang District bandh called by people against the shifting of Siang district HQ from Nyobo (Perang Lampang)/Pangin to Boleng passed off peacefully on Thursday baring few incidents where attempts were made to burn down the office of Veterinary department by an angry mob.
Worried and concerned over the possible attempt of the state government to shift the previously notified Siang District HQ from Nyobo/Pangin to Boleng, the people of Siang District who are in favour of Nyobo/Pangin as district HQ have already lodged several protests against the attempts of shifting the district HQ. Bandh calls, petition to state government and governor were also submitted. In one incident, the people even went to the extent of signing a letter with blood to the state authorities appealing for respecting the sentiments of the common public.
