PASIGHAT, Jul 9: An 11-year-old boy drowned in the Siang river while his elder brother was saved by onlookers this evening.

The victim has been identified as Geyon Siram, a Class VI student, native of Sisen village, under Siang District.

The incident occurred when the victim along with his elder brother were bathing their dog at Komlighat side.

According to eye witness, the duo nearly drowned by fortunately the elder brother was rescued by one Toram Tarang and Robin Siram.

“We were strolling around the river bank when we saw them drowning. So immediately I put down my phone and jumped in and managed to pull out the elder one, but couldn’t trace the younger one,” said Toram Tarang, who is presently pursuing B. Sc. Agri in Dehradun and had returned to his home town just few days ago.

Another brave boy (a class VIII student in Govt. Sec. School Gandhi), Robin Siram, also managed to save a live.

Rescue and recovery efforts of fish out the dead body remained unfruitful till filing of this report.

Rubber boat of the Fire brigade was also being engaged which was monitored by OC Pasighat PS, Atan Taki and SP East Siang District, Prashant Gautam along with Obang Apum, an official from District Disaster Management. Search operation will resume Tuesday morning. In view of the incident, the District administration has advised the general public to avoid bathing in the Siang River as the river is in spate.
