PASIGHAT, Dec 13: In a devastating fire accident incurring huge losses, many houses, shops, godowns, rice-mills of eleven individual families were gutted in Mangnang village, under Sille-Oyan circle at about 11am this morning.The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. As per official source, two fire brigades from Pasighat and one from neighbouring Assam were pressed into services but could not save anything.
On receiving the information, Deputy Commissioner East Siang, Tamiyo Tatak along with DDMO, DIPRO and CO Sille-Oyan visited the spot immediately to take stock of the ground reality. Tatak expressed shock and grief over the incident and appealed to the people to remain alert and be cautious as fire accidents occur frequently in the district during winter. He urged the village elders to reintroduce traditional “Langkam” to prevent such massive fire accidents in future.
The DC gave spot sanction of rupees 3,800 to each family as immediate relief to be paid through Public Finance Management System (PFMS). He directed the ADC Ruksin, CO Sille-Oyan and DDMO to constitute a local board to assess the losses and to forward it to concerned authority so that admissible relief amount could be provided to all the affected families, at the earliest possible.
Meanwhile, 37-Pasighat MLA Tatung Jamoh also expressed shock over repeated occurrence of such incidents. Jamoh while seeking a detail report on the incident from the district administration has informed that he has already discussed the matter with Chief Minister Pema Khandu and the CM has assured to provide one lakh to each victim family from his discretionary fund in addition to government relief as per norms. The MLA further appealed to the people to be more sensitive and not ignore any spark during winter and windy season.
