Itanagar, Mar 26: State Health Secretary P. Parthiban on Thursday informed that keeping in view the need for a dedicated and separate hospital for attending the current Covid-19 pandemic, efforts are being made to convert the 300-bedded Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) into an exclusive such.
“Modalities for converting TRIHMS into a dedicated hospital for Covid-19 patients and to transfer other services to the R.K. Mission Hospital are being worked out,” he informed.
Amidst the news of scarcity of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) faced by the health workers, Health Secretary informed that the state health department has ordered 10,000 PPE from Hindustan Latex Limited (HLL) in Delhi, which should arrive within the next couple of days.
State Surveillance Officer, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (SSO-IDSP) Dr. Lobsang Jampa appealed society to stop ostracising those on home quarantine and reiterated that being on quarantine only means that necessary precautions are being taken and does not certainly mean they are Covid-19 positive patients. This comes after news from various districts were reported about the stigmatisation of those currently under home quarantine. Clearing the misconception on death as a certainty due to coronavirus, Dr. Jampa clarified it is not at all so and only 3-4% who are mostly elders with existing illness have become victims.
Urging the citizens to not panic, he appealed them to take precautionary measures instead and further divulged that out of 9 samples collected from state, six have tested negative while results of the remaining are awaited.
The state has currently 2273 beds for Covid-19 patients in 66 quarantine facilities.
Meanwhile, Secretary, Food & Civil Supplies Jokey Angu informed that PDS supplies for April are already being lifted for all districts and central government has given the supply for May-July on credit already. “Our state has enough ration for 4 months and as such, there is nothing to panic,” he assured.
