Itanagar, Dec 16: The Annexe Building of J.N. State Museum and North-East Galleries were inaugurated today by the Minister Cultural and Indigenous Affairs Er. Taba Tedir here in the state capital.
In his address as Chief Guest, Tedir while dedicating the infrastructure to the state’s people thanked the staff and officers for their tireless efforts in expanding the museum activities. “Today is a historic day as this kind of ethnographic museum is the first of its kind in the Northeast. Through this museum, bond of brotherhood among all states of the region and its people will be promoted which will further create a positive impact on tourism and economic development of the state,” he remarked, also assuring to extend all co-operation for its maintenance.
He further appreciated the Deputy Director Museum and Project Coordinator Dr. S.K. Ghosh and his team for showing efficiency in completing the work. As a Special Guest, former Commissioner of Research Department and icon of literature in the state, Y.D. Thongchi mentioned the name of Dr. Verrier Elwin who pioneered to begin museum activities in Arunachal and urged the minister to open museums in districts with trained personnel for their upkeep. Earlier, Director of Research Batem Pertin highlighted the need of annexing North-East Galleries with J.N. State Museum which is now a premier and prominent institution in the region and opined that it will accelerate homogeneity and integration among the region’s people.
On the occasion which also saw a traditional and colourful Ponung Dance as part of the ceremony, a souvenir was released by the Minister. Deputy Director Museum gave a Power Point Presentation which briefly narrated the evolution of museum activities in state since 1953. Constraint of fund and shortage of technically trained museum personnel were also highlighted by him.
