Eastern Sentinel Arunachal News

Amid the overwhelming despondency which is rising in the country in proportion to the escalating number of Covid positive cases and deaths, the only ray of hope is the improvement of the recovery rate. The world is not sure exactly when the best antidote i.e. the vaccine will be invented and be made ready for mass application. At this juncture, for India, which is suffering from severe medical infra shortcomings, this is certainly a factor which will infuse confidence and boost the sagging morale in keeping the fight alive. Despite the fact that Arunachal is witnessing a rise in cases lately, it should also be taken into consideration that recoveries are also there simultaneously and most importantly, there has been no deaths in the state so far from Covid, a remarkable rarity when placed in the context of the current pan-India picture. The statements of the recent victors of the virus in the state, have many inspiring elements for all and they all convey a very important message- Covid is fully beatable and it will not be a rational attitude to give undue importance to panic and fear. And along with the routine propagation of the dos and don’ts in the face-off with the fatal virus which are being pursued both by the government and various community-based organisations, an extra edge can be added to the state’s overall Covid combat endeavour by highlighting these success stories repetitively, which will act as an efficacious confidence-building dose for the denizens gradually getting enveloped with fear.
This weekend’s scenario tells that another ‘grim milestone’ has been reached. Just a week earlier when daily additions hovered around 10000, all throughout the week after a steady exponential surge, on Friday 14,516 new cases were added taking the total to almost 4 lakh. At the same time the hope which emanates is that the national recovery rate has also steadily increased and percentage-wise, it is 54 which is better than the world average. Even if there might be varied opinions regarding ‘reaching of the peak’ a phrase now frequently used while discussing Covid-19, the current trend, however, indicates that India might be on the threshold of the period. This in medical parlance will mean that in coming weeks and July in particular, there are solid chances when an explosion of cases will be a reality. No wonder, the medical fraternity is harping on to take preparations in terms of the fundamentals such as beds, PPE, ventilators, tracing, testing and the other arsenals.
Along with the above, Arunachal must stress on wiping out the fear factor that has unfortunately crept in among the people. Propagating the stories of recoveries more through all forms of media can effectively supplement the fight, which is going to prolong for sure.
