Eastern Sentinel Arunachal News

In comparison to yesteryears, the number of schools in Arunachal Pradesh has grown and education has become accessible to most of the populace but without the infrastructure and manpower backup.
Merely multiplying without any quality hardly holds any meaning and this is the case with the education scene in the state today. It is hardly making much of a difference in the real sense.
The Arunachal Pradesh government recently informed that it has closed down over 200 government shools having zero enrollment as part of its efforts to revamp education system in the state. This is a sound decision as such schools pose a financial stress on the government. It is practical to have a school catering for few peripheral areas with all infrastructure and teaching support. This will help improve the quality of education.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu has once again expressed concern over the poor quality of education in government-run schools. He said teachers of government schools are highly paid than their counterparts in private schools but the difference in quality of education is stark. But truth be told, the government must own up to its part in the mess.
Parents have lost confidence; they are not enrolling their students in government-run schools not only for deteriorating standard of teaching but also lack of infrastructure needed to facilitate a smooth learning process.
Images of students sitting on classroom floors, roofs and walls barely holding up have become synonymous with government schools. Education in namesake has no meaning and sadly one wonders what kind of future is in store for these children based on such flimsy education. Not negating the fact that there are those few who traverse through all odds and emerge successfully but for every such person there are countless who couldn’t make it because of a shaky start.
