Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik is the holder of many world records and is also the recipient of the fourth highest civilian award Padma Shri in 2014. His intricate sandsculptures on current themes are awe inspiring for people who visit the Puri Beach in Odisha or viewers across the world. Pattnaik also runs a sand art school at Puri beach.

Sudarshan Pattnaik is an example and an anti-thesis to common notion. He exemplifies that, no matter what you do, if you are on top of your game, people will sit up and take note. He is what many would say an ‘unconventional success’. 

There was a time not long ago, when becoming doctors, engineers and other high ranking white collar jobs were viewed as most desirable. But there has been a slow and steady change in this space with more venturing into territories which were earlier unknown or given scant regard.  

Even Arunachal which has a strong fascination was government jobs is observing small yet steady footsteps towards off-beat career choices. It won’t be wrong to say that individuals who have braved the risk and ventured into newer territories have paradoxically found more acclaim and if that’s not success then what it? 

Renowned footballer Gumpe Rime, Everesters Tapi Mra, Anshu Jamsenpa, Shuttler Laa Taalar, Tennis players Mingkhi Talom, fashion designer Nixon Bui etc belong to the select group of pathbreakers. By following less travelled paths, they have become role models and source of inspiration for their average fellow citizens. 

The fascination of discovering new things is a virtue which comes along when one ventures into unchartered territories. As a society, we place immense emphasis on success yet fail to understand that there is no blueprint to success. Success can be achieved no matter which path one takes, provided one strives to do their best.  

To reach success you need to find your calling and have a flight-plan before take-off. As Abraham Lincoln so rightly said, ‘whatever you are, be a good one.’
