TEZU, Jul 16:Tightening the noose on illegal drug trade flourishing in the district, the Lohit Police in another breakthrough arrested 3 drug dealers on July 12 last near New Danglat village, thus taking the total number of arrests to 9 since June last month.

According to the PS, Dilip Tamang (28), Chow Dipen Khem (32) and Orenso Tailu (35), the alleged trio were coming from Namsai to Tezu in different vehicles which were intercepted by the police and a Magistrate and nabbed them red-handed. They have been booked under section 21 (b) of NDPS Act 1985 and the cars also seized. A case has also been registered and all arrestees have been sent on 12 days of judicial remand.

“Opium and other contraband substance abuse is rampant and is a serious issue in the district. With the arrest of nine peddlers, the district is on high alert and police has intensified patrolling to bust out the deep rooted menace,” informed SP Lohit, Isaac Pertin.

However, the SP also blamed the recent arrests as a reflection of the deep rooted syndicate crime being operated illegally terming it unfortunate. ‘This is an outcome of leniency and carelessness shown by the police and judiciary since beginning. The culprit should be punished severely under NDPS Act so that this sort of dreaded crime should be completely rooted out,’ the SP asserted.
