ITANAGAR, Nov 14:

 

An educational intervention programme for students on Adolescence Education Programme (AEP) was organized at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya School, Vivek Vihar, Itanagar by Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) on Monday.

The AEP was launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India in 2005. AEP is being implemented in States and Union Territories through State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs) with support of State AIDS Control Societies (SACS) in the country and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is the coordinating agency on behalf of MHRD.

Resource Person Assistant Director (Youth Affairs) and Nodal Officer, AEP, APSACS, Koj Tara, informed that the

APSACS in collaboration with Directorate of Secondary Education, Government of Arunachal Pradesh will cover 50 Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools of two priority districts of Papum Pare and Lower Subansiri as per annual activity plan for this financial year.

Dwelling on the objectives, he explained that AEP is an educational intervention, focusing on critical elements that would enable young people to deal effectively with the issues related to growing up healthy, including issues related to reproductive and sexual health, prevention of Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) & HIV/AIDS and Prevention of substance (drug) abuse.

He urged students to maintain discipline in their life by avoiding high risk behavior from the point of view of acquiring and transmitting STI/HIV infection.  While deliberating on prevention of substance/drug abuse, he also urged students to develop and to inculcate life skills to equip themselves to meet the challenges of life and optimise opportunities to live a healthier, happier, productive and fulfilling life.
